The Pandemic Effect

I love writing about intentionality, and creating an authentic and purpose driven life. But at a time like this, I found myself a little lost. I saw the things I believe in as petty, compared to the pressing situation we currently have to address – the pandemic.

Some days, I feel helpless. What can a person like me do to make things better? How can I make a positive change? Can I even make a change? What can I contribute?

I realized that it’s times like this that I have to hold on to the things I believe in and the values I live by, all the more. So I came up with a list of things I can do and reflect on whenever I feel helpless. Hope you find value in it too:

Small acts of kindness.

A good friend checks up on me and sends me gospel readings. I may not be able to deeply reflect on it everyday, but sometimes, it has exactly what I needed to hear. It means a lot that she spends a moment of her time to do this act of kindness.

Compassion above all else is what we need at a time like this. Doing good deeds no matter how small inspires hope and encourages good values. Good values inspire actions that create a positive impact.

Ganun talaga” Mentality

I know this sounds cliche but there is always room for improvement.

Events such as corruption, violence, and injustice, are not permanent. They can still be avoided. I refuse to say “Ganun talaga eh.” Because it’s not.

Dwelling on our current situation and merely conforming will serve no purpose.

Hold Yourself Accountable

As embarrassing it is to admit, I am not a registered voter. It has been a privilege in action and this whole experience was a wake up call.

The leaders we choose will bring a HUGE impact to our lives, and to the lives of the future generation. I will get registered, do proper research, and I will vote come year 2022.

Speaking-up

For this one, let me quote Enteng Romano:

Our words are our ammunition. Our post, tweet, likes, shares and RT’s – our weapons. And the social media platforms we are in – our assigned battlefields.

Let us not tire of SPEAKING UP. Let us EXPOSE incompetence, arrogance, and the sense of entitlement by some of our leaders, at every opportunity.

At the same time, let us laud those who step up, some beyond the call of duty, in these extraordinary times. Our CONCERTED VOICES magnify them, and pushes our government to move in the RIGHT direction.

NO. SILENCE is not the answer. YES. SPEAKING UP is part of the solution.”

Respect Each Other’s Journey

We are still allowed to laugh, and create beautiful memories. We can learn a different skill or start something new. Some hustle more and some can choose to take it slow, and re-evaluate plans.

We have our own ways of coping and surviving. We are all in the process of learning and growing. Assumptions serve no purpose. If anything, this is the time to encourage. Let’s be respectful of each other’s journey and keep our hearts and minds open.

“Do what feels right for you and allow others to do the same.” – Lisa Olivera

How are you, really?

The world we know has probably been turned upside down, and back again, and then twirled back and forth. It’s okay to feel sad, or a little lost.

Let’s not forget to check-in on ourselves and acknowledge what we’re feeling.

We are battling a pandemic and we have undergone so many changes in just a span of months. Let’s take it one day at a time.

Stay Safe, Stay Home – the FIGHT isn’t over yet.

I hope the words “Stay Safe” or “Stay Home” do not just end up to be some words we say to each other.

Restrictions might have eased up and the quarantine may have been lifted in some areas, but numbers are still going up. It’s heart breaking to know that behind those numbers are people who are dearly loved – a father, a mother, a daughter, a son, a sister, a brother, a friend.

STAY SAFE. Strictly comply with the safety protocols – wash your hands often, wear a mask, practice social distancing. And as much as possible, STAY HOME.

FINAL THOUGHTS

To answer my own question, I do think we can all contribute and create a positive impact.

Doing small acts of kindness, holding ourselves accountable for our actions, speaking-up when needed, respecting each other’s journey, finding time to self-reflect, strictly complying to safety protocols, and staying home as much as possible are just some of the things we can do.

Our whole lives are made up of choices and we are capable of making ones that create a positive change.

I hope this post has helped you in some way. Feel free to share ideas on the comments section! Stay safe everyone!
